  • German is one of the leading languages in science, literature, philosophy, theology, history, music, movies and arts. It is very much enriching to get familiar with artists, composers, scientists, big thinkers and their works in their own language. German is the language of Goethe, Kafka, Kant, Hegel, Nietzsche, Mozart, Beethoven, Luther, Marx, Freud and Einstein. More than 70 000 books are published in Germany every year - this is about 18% of all publishings world wide. This makes Germany the world's biggest publisher of books after USA and Japan. Speaking German allows you an extended entry to the world of art and science. This is proved by the number of Nobelists: 27 Nobel prizes in chemistry, 15 in medicine, 22 in physics, 7 in literature, 4 Nobel prizes for peace and 1 in economic science.

  • Millions of tourists of foreign countries are visiting the German-speaking countries every year. They all come to see Neuschwanstein, the castle of King Ludwig, fairytale king of the Bavarians, they also come to see the legendary river Rhine, to see the Austrian or Swiss Alps or to drink german beer on the Oktoberfest in Munich. To speak and understand German offers you an occasion to learn a lot about the Germans, their culture and history at first hand - and you might find out not all of us drink Bier, eat Schweinebraten and wear Lederhosen. German people travel more than others - knowledge of the German language gains you an advantage in the occupational areas that have to do with travelling, gastronomy or air traffic, for instance.

  • Of course the internet speaks English - but German is following as second most used language in the world wide web. After a survey called "Netz-Tipp-Studie" 56.4% of all websites are written in English, followed by 7.7% written in German (which is about 156 200 000 websites - without .pdf - files).
